Giacomo Balla at MART Rovereto: total art across painting, fashion and design

The MART - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto presents a monographic exhibition devoted to Giacomo Balla, revealing how painting motifs extend to everyday objects and garments to express his idea of total art. The show includes more than 200 works from the Fondazione Biagiotti Cigna and the collections of Laura and Lavinia Biagiotti.

Why visit:

  • Cross-disciplinary focus: iconic Futurist motifs (wedges, speed vortices, arabesques) are shown not only on canvases but also on furniture, textiles and domestic items.
  • Enriched context: the exhibition is enhanced by the MART's permanent collections, which hold significant Futurist material including works by Fortunato Depero.
  • Educational value: a rare chance to study the intersections between art, fashion and design in the early 20th century.

Curators: the exhibition is organized by Beatrice Avanzi and Fabio Benzi, arranging the displays to highlight Balla's transfer of painterly solutions to everyday objects.
