Autore: Redazione 27/04/2026 22:34

Ghiringhelli Art Gallery launches in Milan with a focus on Japanese contemporary art

From 8 May to 27 June 2026, Milan hosts the opening of Ghiringhelli Art Gallery, a new pop-up exhibition project located at Via Tortona 20. The gallery specialises in contemporary Japanese art and aims to broaden Italian audiences' understanding of this dynamic scene.

The opening reception is scheduled for 7 May at 18:00. The inaugural exhibition, titled Refracted Worlds. Contemporary Japan Through Multiple Lenses, gathers works that investigate image-making, surface treatment and perception in recent Japanese practices.

What to see

The group show brings together diverse media — painting, drawing, ceramics, performance and surface interventions — selected to create a multi-faceted view of contemporary production. Featured artists include:

  • Kohei Nawa – works that mediate vision through material;
  • Yukie Ishikawa – layered canvases marking temporal processes;
  • Kenjiro Okazaki – conceptually dense pieces;
  • Mr. – pop imagery and contemporary visual codes;
  • Ayako Rokkaku – performative painting and bodily gesture;
  • Yuji Ueda – ceramic experimentation blending tradition and surprise;
  • Noritaka Tatehana and the collective Chim↑Pom – contributions that expand the exhibition’s critical scope.

Why visit

The initiative offers a non‑stereotypical perspective on contemporary Japanese art, combining accessible presentation with curatorial depth. The pop-up format enables flexibility in location and programming, fostering direct encounters between artists, collectors and the public.

Practical info: Via Tortona 20, Milan. Exhibition dates: 8 May – 27 June 2026. Opening reception: 7 May, 18:00.
