Friuli Venezia Giulia: €900,000 for municipalities with UNESCO sites

The regional council of Friuli Venezia Giulia approved a fund of €900,000 to support municipalities that host UNESCO-recognized sites. The measure aims to strengthen management, protection and sustainable enhancement of local cultural heritage.

Allocation breakdown:

  • Cividale del Friuli: €405,000 (€150,000 current expenditure, €255,000 capital expenditure) — linked to the "The Lombards in Italy: seats of power" context.
  • Palmanova: €295,000 (€250,000 current, €45,000 capital) — for the conservation and valorisation of Venetian defensive works from the 16th–17th centuries.
  • Caneva (Palù di Livenza): €200,000 (€100,000 current, €100,000 capital) — to support the pile-dwelling site.

The decision implements Regional Law 11/2019 and funds projects such as:

  • conservation and routine maintenance of heritage assets;
  • infrastructure projects to improve site accessibility and visitor experience (paths, signage, accessibility);
  • museum initiatives, communication programmes and sustainable tourism promotion.

For visitors this should mean clearer signage, improved routes and enhanced local services; municipalities will be able to start restoration works and promotional activities. The measure was adopted on 24 April 2026 (Trieste).
