The Vinalia Prioria, the ancient Roman festival for tasting the new vintage, was revived in Frascati as an event that combines wine tastings with cultural heritage promotion. At the fifth edition, held on 25 and 26 April, more than 2,000 visitors attended, with over 100 wineries showcasing more than 500 labels.
The initiative highlights Frascati's territorial identity and the link between wine production and historic sites: an integrated map was launched to connect local wineries with cultural attractions, including the archaeological area of Tuscolo, the Museo Tuscolano (one of the event venues), the Wine Museum of Monteporzio Catone and Villa Mondragone. The aim is to promote itineraries that combine history, archaeology and winery visits.
This strategy responds to growing wine tourism and focuses on sustainability and broader visitor experiences beyond tasting: activities such as countryside excursions, on-site accommodation, horseback or bicycle tours are included on the map to help plan multi-stop visits.
Visitors planning to include archaeological sites should check opening hours for the Tuscolo Archaeological Park and the Museo Tuscolano, allow sufficient travel time between stops and consider booking guided tastings. The combination of archaeological heritage and wine tourism offers a practical way to promote Siti Archeologici while enhancing the visitor experience.
