Francesco Vaccarone in Rome: Exhibition on 1970–1976 at Palazzo Merulana

A retrospective dedicated to Francesco Vaccarone, the Ligurian artist who articulated his thought through painting, printmaking and sculpture. The show highlights the relationship between figure and space, memory and the urban landscape during the years 1970–1976.

What to see

  • Exhibition period: 20 March - 3 May
  • Venue: Palazzo Merulana, Rome
  • Curators: Umberto Croppi and Paolo Asti
  • Works on display: paintings, engraved plates and sculptures documenting the artist’s Roman period
  • Artistic context: the selection traces Vaccarone’s relationships with the Stamperia Il Cigno and the Roman School, clarifying his place in 20th-century art

The exhibited works emphasize Vaccarone’s incisive mark-making and his exploration of tensions between exterior urban spaces and inner landscapes. The project was initiated by the artist’s family and produced by the cultural association Startè.
