Timeless Forms: Roberto Capucci dialogues with MarTa

The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto presents "Timeless Forms – Roberto Capucci dialogues with MarTa", an exhibition pairing the designer's sculptural couture with ancient artifacts from the museum's collections.

Concept and installation

The exhibition establishes visual relationships between Capucci's textile works and archaeological objects—mosaics, painted vases, ancient gold jewellery and sculptures. The twenty garments selected from the Fondazione Roberto Capucci are arranged by artistic and chromatic criteria rather than chronologically, creating formal affinities with the museum pieces.

Curators and partners

  • Museum director: Stella Falzone
  • Fondazione Roberto Capucci: director Enrico Minio Capucci
  • Organisation: Civita Sicilia

Developed through a partnership between MarTa and the Capucci Foundation, the show explores how classical heritage informed the designer's work—often described as an "architect of fashion" for the monumental, sculptural quality of his garments.

What to see

Highlights include:

  • Garment-sculptures inspired by natural elements (leaves, corollas, wings)
  • Deliberate pairings with mosaics and gold artifacts such as Greek diadems
  • Sketches and archival materials that reveal the creative process

Visitors can deepen the suggested comparisons via QR codes placed next to the outfits, which link to detailed entries and multimedia content explaining the connections between ancient art and modern couture.

Practical information

  • Venue: National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MarTa)
  • Exhibition: "Timeless Forms – Roberto Capucci dialogues with MarTa"
  • Opening hours: 9:30 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Layout: the display occupies temporary exhibition rooms and selected upper galleries with targeted integrations

The exhibition provides a clear view of the dialogue between ancient artistic traditions and modern sartorial experimentation, encouraging visitors to recognise aesthetic and technical connections across time.
