Festival del Verde 2026: "Water and Roots" in Turin

From 4 to 24 May 2026 Turin and its metropolitan area become a widespread platform dedicated to urban greenery. Supported by the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, the Festival del Verde brings three weeks of events—meetings, workshops, botanical walks, exhibitions and outreach activities—exploring the relationship between nature and the city.

  • First week (4-10 May): Floredu, focused on environmental education for schools and nurseries, hands-on workshops and a training course for architects on green interventions in school spaces; the week concludes with an event at Nuvola Lavazza.
  • Second week (11-17 May): Pagine Verdi, linked with the Turin International Book Fair, featuring book presentations on landscape and botany, and events in libraries and bookshops.
  • Third week (18-24 May): territory-wide events including guided visits, talks, collaboration pacts and activities with botanical gardens, urban allotments and local associations.

The 2026 theme, "Water and Roots", focuses on sustainable management of rainwater, green infrastructure (rain gardens, urban wetlands), strategies to face droughts and floods, and landscape design approaches that retain water while supporting biodiversity and social well-being. Notable side initiatives include the Verde Svelato openings (9-10 May in Turin; 16-17 May in Cuneo; 27-28 June in Bordighera) and the design competition "1 square metre of garden". The festival culminates with Flor, the floriculture exhibition from 22 to 24 May.

Organisers say the festival aims to highlight urban green assets by engaging schools, citizens, volunteers and professionals. Submissions to propose events were open until 22 March to expand the program.
