Feedback: The Environments of Franco Vaccari at Museion Bolzano

From 28 March to 13 September 2026, Museion hosts a reconstruction of selected ephemeral environments by Franco Vaccari, a key figure in Italian conceptual art. The exhibition highlights the concept of "feedback" as a relational principle between artwork, space and audience.

  • Venue: Museion – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Bolzano
  • Dates: 2026-03-28 – 2026-09-13
  • Curators: Frida Carazzato and Luca Panaro
  • Exhibition design: Fosbury Architecture (Milan / Rotterdam)

The show reconstructs eight of the 43 ephemeral environments Vaccari created between the late 1960s and the early 2000s, accompanied by archival documents, photographs, videos and artist books. The aim is to recreate the perceptual and relational experience of Vaccari's projects, where visitors play an active role in the artwork's unfolding.

One recreated piece at the entrance evokes a collective scale that sums visitors' body weight rather than counting entries, making the work's communal dimension visible. Other installations play with spatial and auditory disorientation, dream-like scenarios and participatory practices.

The route unfolds over two floors: the lower level focuses on intimate, dream-related works, while the upper level features more renowned and performative installations. On selected dates visitors can take part in activities that echo Vaccari's original practices, such as overnight stays followed by dream-recording sessions.

Practical information for visitors:

  • The exhibition begins with a dark entrance area: visitors with mobility or vision issues should consider this before visiting.
  • Check the museum's website for exact opening times and how to register for special events.
  • Allow 60–90 minutes for a thorough visit, given the presence of audiovisual and archival materials.

The exhibition is presented with loans from the artist's archive and Italian institutions and galleries, offering an overview of Vaccari's environmental and process-based approach across decades. For ticketing, opening hours and guided tours consult Museion's official channels.
