Archaeological interventions continue in central Fano, in the area between the Arco di Augusto and the partially uncovered Roman basilica in Piazza Andrea Costa. The works, started on 15 April, have brought to light sections of flooring, foundations attributable to the basilica and parts of the city walls facing Via Arco d'Augusto. Anthropological finds have also emerged and are undergoing specialist study.
To promote public knowledge of the site, openings and guided tours led by an archaeologist are organised: the route explains excavation methods, operational phases and the main discoveries, offering a direct view of ongoing research.
Local authorities and the Superintendency are monitoring progress; reporting on the works has ensured continuity of PNRR funding for the project. These findings expand knowledge of the Roman urban layout and strengthen the relationship between archaeological research and public access, relevant to the city's cultural development plans.
