Este (PD) – Area Olmo: archaeological excavation campaign

A new campaign of archaeological investigations has begun in the area known as "All'Olmo" in the Municipality of Este (PD). The project, carried out in collaboration with the University of Verona and authorized by the Ministry of Culture, aims to reconstruct the route of the Roman decumanus and lay the groundwork for future site enhancement.

Excavation period

The archaeological campaign runs from 4 to 29 May 2026.

Guided tours open to the public

Archaeologists and field technicians will lead free guided tours to present the finds and explain excavation phases. Scheduled days and shifts are:

  • Friday, 22 May 2026 — 1st shift: 16:30-17:15; 2nd shift: 17:30-18:15
  • Friday, 29 May 2026 — 1st shift: 16:30-17:15; 2nd shift: 17:30-18:15

Related urban projects

The excavations support the creation of the Parco dell'Olmo, envisioned as a new green area and cultural hub with educational activities and community engagement. Work is also continuing on the redevelopment of the Palazzo Contarini Park: the project, valued at about €500,000, includes new plantings, accessible paths, restoration of historic structures and installation of furnishings and lighting.
