Sunday at the Museum: free admission on 5 April 2026 in Milan and Lombardy

The first Sunday of the month brings the Sunday at the Museum initiative: on 5 April 2026 state museums, archaeological parks and cultural sites provide free entry to all visitors. Milan and the wider Lombardy region will host special openings, exhibitions and guided tours. Below are the main opportunities and practical details to plan your visit.

Milan: key openings and exhibitions

  • Palazzo Marino — free guided tours of the municipal palace are available; online booking is required and places are limited.
  • Cenacolo Vinciano — free access for the event, with mandatory reservation and places assigned until capacity is reached.
  • Gallerie d’Italia (Piazza Scala) — free entry to the collections and participating temporary exhibitions.
  • Pinacoteca di Brera — free access to selected displays; some visits may require online booking.
  • Armani/Silos — free entry during the initiative to the exhibitions on display.
  • Museo del Novecento — free access to the permanent collection.
  • Galleria d’Arte Moderna — special reduced tickets available for the day.
  • Castello Sforzesco, Museo Archeologico di Milano and other city institutions will offer free openings or special activities.
  • Museo d’Arte della Fondazione Rovati — temporary exhibitions accessible free of charge during the event.

Main free sites across Lombardy (selected by province)

Beyond Milan, many regional museums and archaeological sites open their doors at no cost. Representative examples include:

  • Pavia province: Museo della Certosa.
  • Monza and Brianza province: Cappella Espiatoria in Monza.
  • Varese province: Antiquarium and Archaeological Park of Castelseprio.
  • Cremona province: Villa Romana and Antiquarium of Palazzo Pignano.
  • Brescia province: Castello Scaligero and Grotte di Catullo in Sirmione; archaeological sites and museums in the Camonica Valley.
  • Mantua province: National Archaeological Museum and Ducal Palace Museum.
  • Sondrio province: Palazzo Besta in Teglio and rock engraving parks.
  • Others: numerous smaller collections and archaeological parks across the region also participate with free entry or special programming.

Practical tips and where to check updates

Check opening hours and access rules before you go: many venues require advance booking (online or by phone) and limit visitor numbers. For the latest information on reservations, schedules and exhibitions, consult the Ministry of Culture website or contact individual museums directly.

Sunday at the Museum is a valuable opportunity to explore permanent collections and temporary shows without an entrance fee — plan ahead to secure your visit.
