UNESCO Toolkit for Evaluating World Heritage Site Management Now Available in Italian
The Italian edition of the Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit 2.0 is now published. Developed by UNESCO together with ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN, this toolkit provides a tested methodology to assess the effectiveness of World Heritage Site management. The translation, supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Association of Italian World Heritage Properties, makes the resource accessible to site managers and heritage professionals across Italy.
The toolkit is designed to support operational and strategic decision-making, encourage stakeholder participation and strengthen conservation through integrated, sustainable approaches.
- 12 operational tools that can be used together or separately to examine key management system elements;
- A global self-assessment methodology to determine how effectively a site is managed;
- Applicable to cultural, natural and mixed sites to enhance governance, planning and resource allocation;
- Includes practical guidance and guiding questions for field application and management plan updates;
- Intended for site managers, managing authorities, local communities and institutions.
The Italian translation helps bridge international standards and national practice, providing a practical resource to promote sustainability and shared responsibility in heritage management. The publication supports ongoing efforts to disseminate technical skills and training for safeguarding UNESCO sites in Italy.
Practical use: the toolkit can be applied during preparation, review or revision of management plans and used as a common basis for dialogue with stakeholders and communities, improving transparency and decision quality.
