Cremona Contemporanea: the city as a stage for contemporary art

From 23 to 31 May 2026, Cremona hosts Cremona Contemporanea, a city-wide event that brings contemporary artworks into conversation with historical and urban sites. Site-specific installations, performances and exhibitions animate public spaces and venues usually closed to the public, creating a flexible cultural route for all audiences.

Where to see the works

The program includes a variety of settings: civic buildings, churches, noble palaces, industrial sites and subterranean spaces. Key locations include:

  • Palazzo del Comune – historic civic halls reinterpreted through contemporary projects;
  • Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta – contemporary works dialogue with Renaissance frescoes and sacred architecture;
  • Palazzo Vescovile and Palazzo Fodri – period residences hosting site-specific interventions;
  • Bunker of Via Grado 19 – an unusual underground venue for immersive and sound-based installations;
  • Monastero del Corpus Domini, the Church of Saints Marcellinus and Peter and other evocative religious spaces;
  • Enoteca Cremona, FasArchitetti and the Politecnico di Milano – Cremona campus for projects linking art, design and research.

Why attend

Cremona Contemporanea aims to enhance the city's cultural identity by presenting contemporary practices in unexpected contexts: it is a chance to access hidden spaces, meet artists and experience works conceived specifically for their settings.

Practical tips

  • Plan your route: check opening times and special events to organize visits efficiently; artworks are spread across the city.
  • Walk or cycle: the historic centre is best explored on foot; light mobility options help reach dispersed venues.
  • Verify updates: consult the official schedule before you go for program changes and live events.
  • Accessibility: historic buildings may have limited access—check in advance if you have specific needs.

How to reach Cremona

Cremona is served by regional trains from major Lombardy cities and by road connections from across northern Italy. If travelling by car for a day trip, consider parking outside the centre and using public transport or walking to avoid inner-city congestion.
