The Cimitero Monumentale del Verano in Rome opens as an open-air museum with a programme of free guided visits and, for the first time this year, bicycle routes across the site. Sessions take place on weekends in May and include an additional date on 2 June 2026.
Programs include historical routes exploring moments of Italian unification and the First World War, literary itineraries focused on major cultural figures, artistic trails highlighting funerary sculpture and painting, and music and cinema themed tours. New bike tours allow participants to cover more of the Verano’s roughly 80 hectares.
Practical information: all visits are free but places are limited: booking in advance is mandatory. Check the full programme and booking procedures on the Verano’s dedicated website before attending.
For visitors interested in history, art and cultural memory, the Verano offers varied routes that bring to light the stories and monuments of Rome’s past residents.
