Book Capital 2027: Caltagirone leads five-municipality pact in Sicily

Five-town pact for Book Capital 2027

During a ceremony held in the Giorgio Arcoleo hall in Caltagirone, a strategic cooperation agreement was signed by five Sicilian municipalities to apply for the title of Book Capital Italy 2027. Caltagirone will act as lead municipality in a network aimed at enhancing the area's cultural identity through distributed initiatives.

• Participating municipalities: Caltagirone (lead), Niscemi, Mineo, Vizzini, Licodia Eubea.
• Goals: promote reading as a tool for social cohesion and inclusion; coordinate the establishment of "Pacts for Reading"; strengthen the cultural and tourist appeal of the area.
• Associative partners: Archeoclub d’Italia and Le Muse, who attended the signing.
• Expected outcomes: a distributed project designed to secure European and community funds and to enhance cultural programming locally.

Local leaders emphasized the value of networking to build a sustainable, shared proposal: the bid aims not only at symbolic recognition but also at concrete instruments to support reading programs and grassroots cultural activities.
