Borderland / Orizzonti: 20th edition

Borderland / Orizzonti marks twenty years of continuous activity in the regional contemporary art scene with a distributed project that links artistic research, local contexts and cross-border dialogue.

Opening

• Date and time: Wednesday 15 April 2026 at 18:00.
• Venue: Casa della Musica, Cervignano del Friuli.
• Opening event: Materia Sensibile – il corpo come interferenza, a public conversation with artists Nicola Fornoni and Claudia Amatruda, moderated by curator Eva Comuzzi. Visual materials and videos will be shown. Free admission.

Open call and residency

• An open call for visual artists resident in Italy will be announced during the evening. Participation is free; application deadline: 3 May 2026.
• Residency dates: 7–14 June 2026 in San Mauro (Gorizia area). A second phase 14–21 June 2026 will involve an invited Austrian artist to foster international exchange.
• Final output: an exhibition at the former Cinema Cristallo in Grado showcasing works produced during the residency and a selection of recent research by participating artists.

The project

Founded in Cervignano del Friuli in 2004, the independent project—curated by Eva Comuzzi and Orietta Masin and supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region—has grown regionally, building relationships between artists and communities. This edition addresses the concept of border as a space for imagination and exploration.

Program highlights

• May–June: the exhibition Confine di carta at the Antico Ospedale dei Battuti in San Vito al Tagliamento, fostering dialogue between established Slovenian-area artists and contemporary regional practitioners.
• Late summer: residency outcomes and a collective exhibition in Grado focused on emerging artists.
• Summer events in Marano Lagunare as part of the international festival Arte tra le calli.
• Autumn: two special closing events in Cervignano featuring guests, performances, music and meetings to celebrate the festival’s twenty years.
