Bari: two contemporary works added to the Metropolitan Art Gallery

Bari: new additions to the Metropolitan Art Gallery “Corrado Giaquinto”

The Pinacoteca Metropolitana in Bari has incorporated two contemporary works into its permanent collection after a donation approved by the Metropolitan Council. The move was advanced by councilor for protection and enhancement of the Pinacoteca's heritage, Micaela Paparella.

• Mayday Mayday Mayday (2025) — a video by Brazilian artist Berna Reale, running 4'11". The piece exposes ecosystems suffocated by plastic waste and is part of the artist's performance-based practice. The donation follows Reale's first solo show in Italy, Estetica della Violenza, hosted at the Pinacoteca between November and December 2025 during the XI Bari International Gender Festival.
• Nike or Winged Victory (1969) — a bronze sculpture (cm 83 × 34 × 48) by Bari-born Anna Maria Di Terlizzi, active since 1966 and known for work focused on social and women's issues. This donation consolidates her connection with the Pinacoteca, which presented her exhibition Orme di anime inquiete in 2022, devoted to women's rights.

The inclusion of these works enhances the museum's collection and highlights contemporary reflections on environmental and gender topics. Visitors are advised to check the gallery's visiting hours and exhibition information for potential displays featuring the new acquisitions.
