Arezzo honors Francesco Redi: bibliographic exhibition at the Contemporary Art Gallery

The exhibition “Francisci Redi patricii arretini: la (ri)scoperta del genio”, curated by Elisa Boffa and organized by the Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo in collaboration with the Municipality and the City Library of Arezzo (with the patronage of the Tuscany Region), opens on April 2 at 6:00 PM at the Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art and will be on view until June 7, 2026.

The display reconstructs the multifaceted profile of Francesco Redi (1626–1697), a leading figure in 17th-century Italian and European science, through documents, manuscripts and printed volumes that reveal his scientific production, literary interests and cultural relationships.

Highlights

  • Francesco: memories and genealogy
  • Redi’s library
  • Redi’s enduring ties with Arezzo
  • From vipers onward: scientific works
  • On the use of language: vocabularies and academies
  • Bacchus and other literary writings
  • Scholars, colleagues and students
  • The Redi lineage
  • After him: posthumous works

A central document on display is the Libro dei Ricordi, a chronologically ordered personal record recently restored; it can be consulted at the City Library of Arezzo upon request.
