The 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival lights up summer 2026 with great voices, stars, and unforgettable shows

There is a place in Italy where music meets history, where theater opens to the sky and every performance becomes a shared experience. It is the Arena di Verona, the Roman amphitheater that for more than a century has hosted one of the most famous opera festivals in the world.

After captivating millions of viewers during the celebrations connected to the 2026 Olympic season, which transformed the ancient monument into a global stage, the Arena returns to its deepest vocation, grand opera. From June 12 to September 12, the 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival will take place, three months of performances that once again confirm Verona as an international capital of opera.

In this open air theater, surrounded by millennia old stones and a star filled sky, music becomes a collective ritual, a suspended moment in which the power of the world’s greatest voices spreads naturally through the space thanks to extraordinary acoustics.

A festival that moves through time

Built in the first century AD, the Arena di Verona is one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. Originally designed for gladiatorial games and large public spectacles, it has gradually become a temple of music.

Since 1913, when the historic performance of Aida inaugurated the arena’s operatic tradition, the festival has grown into one of the most important cultural events in Europe. Every summer thousands of spectators from around the world gather here to experience opera in a setting that is both monumental and intimate.

The tradition continues in 2026 with a program that combines beloved masterpieces of the repertoire with new productions designed to enhance the dramatic scale of the amphitheater.

The great operatic masterpieces

The 2026 festival program features some of the most celebrated works in the history of music.

The season will open on June 12 and 13 with a new production of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, one of the most frequently performed operas in the world.

Alongside Verdi’s masterpiece, audiences will experience other iconic titles including Aida, Nabucco, La Bohème, and Turandot, operas that have always found an ideal stage in the Arena thanks to its monumental scenery and powerful choral performances.

Special events with music, dance, and spectacle

Alongside the great opera productions, the festival also presents a series of special events that broaden the language of live performance.

Among the most anticipated highlights of the summer is the return of Roberto Bolle and Friends, the celebrated dance gala that brings together some of the greatest ballet stars on the international stage. The program also includes the monumental Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Viva Vivaldi, a symphonic show celebrating the Venetian composer with immersive projections inspired by The Four Seasons.

Dance will also take center stage with Zorba the Greek, the famous ballet set to the music of Mikis Theodorakis, returning to Verona and renewing its historic connection with the city where it first premiered in the late 1980s.

In total, the festival will feature around fifty evenings of performances, confirming the Arena as one of the most important music festivals in the world.

An experience beyond the performance

Attending an opera at the Arena di Verona is not simply about watching a performance, it is about living a fully immersive experience that begins long before the curtain rises.

The sunset atmosphere that envelops the amphitheater, the starlit sky accompanying the music, and the monumental stage designs that fill the vast space make every evening unforgettable.

In recent years the festival has also expanded its hospitality offerings, with exclusive experiences including VIP access, pre performance champagne receptions, behind the scenes tours, and elegant dinners in some of Verona’s most suggestive locations.

Alongside artistic prestige, the festival has also increased its focus on accessibility, developing initiatives designed to make opera more inclusive and engaging for wider audiences.

Summer 2026 under the stars

Following the global visibility brought by the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic celebrations, which placed the Verona amphitheater in the international spotlight, the Arena is preparing for another season of major worldwide appeal.

The 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival once again promises to transform music into a collective experience capable of bringing together audiences from all over the world under the same sky.

An event that is not just entertainment, but memory, emotion, and tradition in one of the most iconic cultural landmarks in Italy.
