Free special openings in Cagliari: Villa Carboni and Palazzo Amat

On Sunday, 24 May 2026 Cagliari takes part in the 16th edition of the National Historic Houses Day. The initiative, delivered locally by ADSI Sardegna, opens private historic homes to the public for guided visits.

This is a chance to discover two lesser-known but architecturally significant residences and to learn about preservation of privately held cultural heritage.

  • Villa Carboni — via San Michele 60: a 17th-century building founded on remains of a Roman domus and converted in the 19th century into the Carboni family residence. The garden and ground floor will be accessible. Scheduled visits at 10:00 and 15:30, each lasting about 1 hour.
  • Palazzo Amat (San Filippo) — via Lamarmora 138: a noble palace overlooking Piazza Indipendenza, with the Amat family coat of arms in the entrance hall. Visits include the marchional apartment; multiple time slots of about 40–45 minutes are planned with regulated access.

Practical information:

  • Admission is free for both properties.
  • Reservation is mandatory: visits are by guided time slot and require booking through the organiser's website (ADSI Sardegna).
  • Bring an ID if requested and follow organisers' instructions regarding meeting points and punctuality.

The 2026 edition is themed “Custodians of the future. A living heritage for shared value”, highlighting the responsibility to protect and pass on private historic architecture. Book early, check capacity limits and arrive on time for your selected slot.
