Andrea Chiesi's solo exhibition at Villa Franceschi gathers recent, largely unpublished works that probe contemporary landscape, industrial archaeology and the resurgence of nature within built environments. The show is framed around the idea of kairos, the decisive moment of revelation, inviting visitors to a contemplative encounter with space and time.

The works and artistic language

The selection focuses primarily on ink drawings on Rosaspina paper from the "Naturae vincit" series. Using meticulous line work and ink washes, Chiesi examines how vegetation and architecture intersect, creating suspended atmospheres and inner visions where time appears to slow down.

The exhibition also features a room of large-scale oil paintings on linen from an earlier phase of the artist's practice. The dialogue between drawing and painting highlights the development of Chiesi's visual language across different techniques and formats.

Collaborative mosaic and educational dimension

On display is the mosaic Karma 34 (2019), produced by students from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Ravenna during a workshop with the artist. The mosaic underscores the exhibition's educational and collaborative aspect, showcasing the relationship between hands-on training and contemporary artistic production.

About the artist

Andrea Chiesi (b. Modena, 1966) investigates landscape, memory and impermanence through painting and drawing. His practice has evolved from oil painting to finely worked ink drawings, often informed by philosophical and meditative interests. Chiesi has exhibited nationally and internationally and holds teaching positions in art academies.

The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality and curated by Sara Andruccioli and Paolo Trioschi.
