Detection date: April 15, 2026. A park ranger patrol discovered five deceased wolves in San Francesco, within the contiguous area of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. Carcasses and any material found on site were seized and investigations have been initiated by the competent authorities.
Preliminary checks, supported by the anti-poison canine unit, suggest the possible presence of poisoned baits in the area. While poisoning is currently the leading hypothesis, laboratory toxicology tests will be needed to confirm the cause of death. Seized items have been made available to the public prosecutor, who is coordinating the inquiries and will order further analyses at a veterinary diagnostics institute.
