Alberobello marks 30 years as a UNESCO site: States General launch

Alberobello has started a series of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Trulli's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The institutional initiative, supported by the Municipality, the Apulia Region, the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO, includes thematic sessions, exhibitions, film screenings and public participation activities.

Main program

• 27 May 2026 – Spring Session "Pietra Vivente" at Largo Martellotta and Casa Alberobello: official opening (09:30), presentation of the Youth Management Plan and launch of the "Cantiere delle Idee"; institutional speeches and a concert by the AMA Music School.
• 28 July 2026 – Summer Session in the Council Chamber focused on spontaneous urbanism; issuance of a commemorative postal cancellation and memorial events for Gianpiero De Santis.
• 29 July – 8 September 2026 – Summer cultural program including the exhibition "Frame: visions by authors" (29 July), "Radici in Festa" and the Isabella Sgobba Prize (1 August), the Trulli da Cinema film series (28 July–8 September) and the Alberobello Short Film Fest (8 September).
• 3–6 December 2026 – Winter Session "Inhabited Landscapes": national conference of UNESCO cities, focus on Trulli restoration, the "Mennella Labbate" recognition and workshops on living memory and future habitation.
• February 2027 – Final event "The future written together" (exact date to be announced) to summarise the year-long process.

Practical goals

• Strengthen shared site management with an updated Management Plan.
• Promote conservation and restoration practices compatible with the habitability of the trulli.
• Define strategies for sustainable tourist flows and urban regeneration.
• Engage local communities, cultural operators and institutions in continuous dialogue.
