The Parco della Biodiversità Mediterranea “Michele Traversa” in Catanzaro now hosts a dedicated Bonsai Art Garden featuring the permanent installation titled “Il Getsemani”. The project was promoted by the association Perla dello Jonio and completed with the participation of over 40 members.
“Il Getsemani” brings together natural heritage and artisanal metalwork: at its core are ancient olivastri from the Gargano, trees that bear the marks of time and climate. These specimens rest on a slab of Calabrian green stone, while a custom-forged iron support by artist Nuccio Loreti integrates with the plants, preserving their character and enhancing the composition.
Coordinated by instructor Paolo Colaianni and with bonsai expert Roberto Napolitano (Club “Clan”), the installation is the outcome of a collective effort combining technical know-how and artistic vision. The work serves as a tribute to nature’s resilience and to the Mediterranean scrubland species.
“Il Getsemani” is on permanent display in the new Bonsai Art Garden starting 24 September, coinciding with the bonsai exhibition organized by the promoting association. Key visitor information:
This initiative marks an important moment for Catanzaro: public green spaces are being enhanced as exhibition venues that celebrate plant traditions and artistic practices. The Bonsai Art Garden aims to become a reference point for spreading bonsai culture and Mediterranean biodiversity awareness.
