Memorandum signed in Rome between Ambiente Mare Italia and the National Association of Italian Sailors (ANMI)

On 18 April 2026, at the historic ANMI headquarters in Piazza Giovanni Randaccio, Rome, a memorandum of understanding was signed to advance protection of marine ecosystems and promote maritime culture.

The agreement — linked to the AMI Green Week (scheduled from 10 to 22 April) — establishes a framework for joint training programmes, outreach activities and educational pathways aimed primarily at younger generations, involving schools, local communities and territorial branches.

  • Goals: raise environmental awareness, enhance marine biodiversity appreciation and preserve maritime memory.
  • Planned actions: school programmes, guided visits to association archives and relics, citizen science campaigns and community events.
  • Engagement: AMI and ANMI plan to convert local sections into active cultural and civic hubs.

Leaders from both organisations — AMI president Alessandro Botti and Admiral Pierluigi Rosati for ANMI — emphasized that understanding the sea’s history and culture is essential to foster collective responsibility and sustainable stewardship along Italy’s more than 8,000 km of coastline.

The memorandum aims to transform maritime heritage and expertise into tangible projects for future generations, blending education, cultural preservation and environmental protection.
