‘Pappafish’ launches in Jesi: fresh fish education for 1,900 pupils

The Municipality of Jesi has launched the educational project “Pappafish - From port to port”, in collaboration with Jesiservizi and financed by the Marche Region through the European Fisheries Fund (EFF). The initiative involves all local nursery and primary schools and aims to promote the conscious consumption of fresh, local fish.

Started on 16 March 2026, the programme reaches about 1,900 children and combines in-canteen tastings, educational workshops and family participation events.

• School canteen tastings: pupils can try various fish-based dishes and vote playfully on their preference with tokens (sun token = liked; storm token = not much enjoyed).
• Educational pathways: six classes will take part in sensory workshops, multimedia activities and hands-on sessions to discover the marine environment and sustainable aquaculture practices.
• Family Show-Cooking: children, chefs, teachers and educators will prepare fish tastings for parents, turning the school into a community event attended by municipal representatives, including Mayor Lorenzo Fiordelmondo.

The project seeks not only to introduce children to new tastes but also to highlight the local fishing supply chain and encourage healthy, environmentally aware food choices.
