April 25, 2026: free entry to museums and archaeological parks in Sicily

On April 25, 2026 regional cultural sites in Sicily will be accessible to the public free of charge. The initiative includes numerous archaeological parks and museums across the island, offering a chance to explore Sicily's rich historical and archaeological heritage.

Archaeological sites open (selection)

Among the main archaeological parks available without charge are:

  • Valley of the Temples (Agrigento)
  • Segesta
  • Selinunte
  • Cave di Cusa
  • Pantelleria
  • Lilibeo (Marsala)
  • Naxos and Taormina
  • Aeolian Islands and Tindari
  • Syracuse: Archaeological Park, Eloro, Valle del Tellaro and Akrai
  • Leontinoi
  • Catania and Valle dell'Aci
  • Morgantina and the Villa Romana del Casale
  • Himera, Solunto and Iato
  • Kamarina, Cava d'Ispica and the Archaeological Park of Gela

Museums and cultural venues included

  • Galleria di Palazzo Abatellis (Palermo)
  • Antonio Salinas Archaeological Museum (Palermo)
  • Regional Museum "Agostino Pepoli" (Trapani)
  • Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Palermo)
  • Palazzo Bellomo Gallery (Syracuse)
  • Interdisciplinary Museum of Messina

Why attend

The day combines free cultural access with civic remembrance: Liberation Day commemorates Italy's freedom from fascism and, in Sicily, offers an opportunity to reconnect with the island's millennia-old past through visits to archaeological sites.

Practical tips for visitors

  • Plan your itinerary: choose sites in advance to make the most of travel times.
  • Check schedules and access rules: some sites may require timed entries or reservations.
  • Arrive early: expect higher crowds at the most famous locations.
  • Bring water and sun protection: many archaeological areas are outdoors with limited services.
  • Enhance your visit: consider guided tours or information materials to better understand the historical context.

Other free culture dates

The Region also plans other days with free admission: June 2 (Republic Day) and November 4 (National Unity and Armed Forces Day). Always check official updates before planning your trip.
