April 25, 2026 in Montepulciano: Liberation Day program

Montepulciano will observe Liberation Day with a morning of institutional and commemorative events. Organized with ANPI and local veterans' associations, the ceremonies honor the memory of the partisans and highlight the 2026 provincial theme: "Free from prejudice, united in rights", on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the first universal suffrage vote.

Below is the detailed schedule and locations for those who wish to attend or follow the memorials in the surrounding hamlets.

  • 10:00 – Gathering in Piazza Grande and start of the procession, accompanied by the Banda Poliziana, with the municipal Gonfalon and association banners.
  • 10:15 – Laying of a wreath in memory of partisan Giuseppe Marino in via Borgo Buio.
  • 10:30 – Ceremony at the Partisans' Monument in the Giardino di Poggiofanti: wreath laying and institutional speeches by Mayor Michele Angiolini and ANPI Montepulciano President Irene Bettollini.
  • 11:30 – Commemorations continue in the hamlets at their respective memorial sites:
    • Abbadia – Giardino della Rimembranza
    • Stazione – Monument in Piazza Europa (next to the Civic Center)
    • Gracciano – Giardino della Rimembranza
    • Valiano – Public Gardens
    • Sant'Albino – Memorial stone in the Public Gardens
    • Acquaviva – Shrine at the Church of San Vittorino

The events form part of the wider provincial commemorations that emphasize democratic participation and the rights won by women, who were first called to the polls in 1946. Residents are encouraged to join the ceremonies and to display the national flag from their windows as a sign of civic participation.
