Valtellina features an extended blooming season from late March through the rhododendrons of high summer. In May the variety peaks: terraces display wild cherries and orchards, while higher pastures show crocuses, primulas and heathers. Below are eight recommended routes to experience these natural displays.

Recommended routes

• Strada del Vino (Ardenno - Tirano): 67 km along mid-slope trails suitable for walking, cycling or driving; ideal for cherry blossoms, orchards and terraced vineyards.
• Boschi di Bondeno (Val Bregaglia / Upper Valchiavenna): family-friendly, through woods and meadows with early-season blooms and a viewpoint over Valle Spluga.
• Andossi Plateau (from Madesimo): reachable by car or on foot; extensive meadows where crocuses peak between late April and early May.
• Albaredo per San Marco – Rifugio Alpe Piazza (1,835 m): medium-difficulty route with wide views of the Orobie and flowering pastures up to the refuge.
• Parco dei Bagni, Bormio (1,350–1,450 m): inside Stelvio National Park, easy paths among heathers and wild orchids; a walk that combines nature and 19th-century thermal architecture.
