UNESCO “Shared Heritage”: free training and guided visits for teachers

The UNESCO, Shared Heritage initiative offers primary and secondary teachers in Lombardy a free programme combining an introductory conference and guided visits to the region's UNESCO sites, aimed at turning heritage places into hands-on educational resources.

Introductory conference

Date: 18 May 2026
Venue: Palazzo Lombardia, Milan

The conference outlines the educational goals of the programme and provides practical tools for classroom use. Sessions feature art historians, presentations on science and technology applied to heritage, participatory workshops (including a Lego Serious Play activity) and showcases of digital projects by local schools.

Free guided visits for teachers

Guided visits are designed to supply teachers with materials and ideas for on-site learning. Main dates:

  • 23 May 2026 – Castelseprio and Torba Monastery (Lombard traces, Santa Maria Foris Portas)
  • 24 May 2026 – Isolino Virginia (pile-dwelling prehistoric site)
  • 30 May 2026 – San Salvatore–Santa Giulia monumental complex, Brescia
  • 31 May 2026 – Valle Camonica (rock engravings, Archaeological Park of the Cemmo Boulders, MUPRE of Capo di Ponte)
  • 6 June 2026 – The Last Supper and Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan
  • 7 June 2026 – Avenue of Chapels at the Sacro Monte of Varese

Educational tools and resources

Participants will gain access to teaching kits, podcasts, video interviews and courses developed with the UNESCO Chair at Politecnico di Milano (Mantua territorial hub). Resources are designed to integrate visits with classroom activities and digital learning.

How to participate

Participation is free but requires registration. To register and book visits use the Experience Regione Lombardia portal. Teaching materials and visit details are also available via Abbonamento Musei. Places are limited.
