Six million euros to regenerate Rome’s museums and archaeological sites

The municipal council has approved participation in a regional call to request roughly €6 million aimed at enhancing the city’s cultural heritage. The municipality will cover 20% of the eligible costs. The funds are intended for targeted restoration, safety and accessibility measures in several museum and archaeological locations.

  • Museum of Roman Civilization: €1.2 million requested for energy efficiency upgrades (installation of photovoltaic panels) and for restoration, conservation works and climate control of the basement level to open library and archive spaces to the public.
  • Palazzo Braschi: around €1 million for opening the third floor to the public, restoring eight rooms and conserving deteriorated decorative elements.
  • Taberna delle Tre Pile (near Teatro Marcello): €1 million for securing the hypogeum, recovering and restoring fragments of painted plaster found on the walls.
  • Sepolcreto of via Ostiense: €1.3 million for conservative restoration of stuccoes, frescoes and mosaics and for creating a new visitor route with exhibition displays.
  • San Valentino archaeological area (viale Piłsudski): €1.5 million to improve accessibility, secure and consolidate existing structures.

Aims: to pair conservation work with measures that improve public access and sustainability, from energy upgrades to accessible routes and exhibition paths that enable opening new areas to visitors. The coordinated effort between the Superintendency and the municipal administration seeks to create systemic enhancement of the city’s archaeological and museum assets.
