Castrum Novum reopens: volunteers at the core of the relaunch

Visits have resumed at the Castrum Novum Archaeological Park in Santa Marinella. After a pause linked to works on the visitor center, the site is now accessible again thanks to the continuous effort of GATC volunteers, who carried out essential maintenance to ensure safety and visitor access.

Field interventions and site upkeep

Volunteers performed activities including:

• removal of winter coverings;
• vegetation cutting and clearing of paths;
• cleaning and maintenance of excavation areas to support research and educational activities.

These operations prepared the park for the new season and strengthened the connection between the local community and its archaeological heritage.

Educational program and guided visits

The park recently hosted pupils from the Vignacce school in Santa Marinella together with Spanish students as part of a cultural exchange, underlining the site's educational role. The Civic Museum Hub announced the restart of visits and educational activities under the slogan “Procedamus!”.

Santa Severa Castle tours: schedule and bookings

The cultural offer also includes resumed guided tours of Santa Severa Castle (Museum of the Sea and Ancient Navigation, Castle Museum, Early-Christian Church, the village and the keep):

• regular appointments every Sunday at 10:30;
• special guided visits on Saturday 20 June 2026 and Saturday 27 June 2026 at 16:00;
• fee: 8 euros (entry + guide); bookings available through the Civic Museum Hub ticket office.
