Remain(s) in Matera: installations and fragments probing memory

Remain(s) presents the work of two Southern Italian artists, Luca Granato and Michela Rondinone. Curated by Antonella Marino and hosted at Momart Gallery, the exhibition examines the notion of "trace" as material remainder, resistance to oblivion and a generative element for contemporary meaning-making.

The show contrasts Rondinone’s playful, relational practices with Granato’s focus on loss, absence and socio-political concerns.

  • Michela Rondinone: works such as Trama di casa (2021), a wearable sculpture in stone and twine, and Tessere del tempo (2025), a constellation of ceramic and textile fragments.
  • Luca Granato: pieces addressing return, migration and depopulation, including the installation Self-Portrait in Ash (2025) and the video Until You Learn My Name (2025), where the sea functions as a political and symbolic space of crossing and loss.

The curatorial approach highlights how fragments can testify to collective wounds while also generating new narratives in the present.
