For World Autism Awareness Day, a morning event at Rome's Biopark brought together children and adolescents on the autism spectrum and their families. Organized by the Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio‑Medico with pediatricians, child neuropsychiatrists and local associations, the initiative combined adapted guided walks with practical discussions on inclusion and environment adjustments.
Main goals: create more welcoming, low‑sensory environments; provide clear, practical information to families; and encourage dialogue among professionals and associations to improve diagnostic pathways and support services.
The guided visit was designed to be sensory‑friendly: calmer routes, controlled visit duration and opportunities to interact with nature and animals in a protected setting. More than twenty families with children aged 6 to 18 took part.

Why these events matter: beyond recreation, activities designed for neurodiversity test practical solutions to lower sensory and social barriers, engaging families, professionals and institutions in a shared effort to improve spaces and services.
