The National Archaeological Museum of the Marche has announced plans to create a gallery to showcase the 6,000 gold coins discovered at Mandracchio between 1927 and 1928. The hoard has been out of public view since the 1972 earthquake and is currently kept in the museum's vault.
Key facts about the find and the exhibition project:
The museum plans to integrate the exhibition within the broader cultural programme connected to Ancona's bid for Italian Capital of Culture 2028. Complementary initiatives include thematic exhibitions on the city’s origins (the Doric and Picene phases) and maritime projects like Archeoboat, a boat tour that will narrate Ancona’s identity from the sea.
Practical information for visitors: no official opening date is set yet. The museum will announce timing and access arrangements when the new gallery is complete. Expect special openings and collaborations with other cultural institutions in the run-up to 2028.
Follow the museum’s official channels for updates on visits, themed routes and related exhibitions.
