Museums open in Milan for Easter and Easter Monday 2026

Easter Sunday (5 April 2026) falls on the first Sunday of the month: several civic museums participate in the free-entry initiative for their permanent collections. On Easter Monday (6 April 2026) most civic museums close, but some major exhibitions and private venues remain open.

Where to go on Easter Sunday (5 April)

  • Castello Sforzesco – civic collections open
  • Acquario Civico
  • GAM – Galleria d'Arte Moderna (civic collections free on the first Sunday)
  • Archaeological Museum
  • Museo del Novecento
  • Natural History Museum
  • Palazzo Morando | Costume Moda Immagine
  • Palazzo Moriggia | Museum of the Risorgimento
  • Casa Museo Boschi di Stefano
  • MUDEC – Museum of Cultures – permanent collection and the temporary exhibition Il senso della neve are free to visit on Easter Sunday

Some non-civic exhibitions may also be open on Easter Monday; always check current opening times on the venue's website.

Closures and openings for Easter Monday (6 April)

Most civic museums and municipal collections will be closed on Easter Monday. However, several major exhibitions and institutions will remain open across both days:

  • Palazzo Reale – confirmed openings for exhibitions: Anselm Kiefer. Le Alchimiste, I Macchiaioli, Metafisica / Metafisiche and Robert Mapplethorpe. The Forms of Desire.
  • PAC – Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea – Marco Fusinato's show The only true anarchy is that of power open on both days.
  • Fabbrica del Vapore – exhibitions open across both days including Water and Peaks, Stefano Zardini. A visionary at Altitude and Macro Pop (some exhibitions may be free; check details).
  • GAMPaul Troubetzkoy. The Sculptor of the Belle Époque is available on Easter Sunday; confirm availability for Easter Monday.

Practical tips

  • Always check opening hours and entry rules on the museum's official website or institutional portals (for example, YesMilano) before you go.
  • If an exhibition requires a paid ticket, see whether advance booking or online purchase is necessary.
  • Free first-Sunday openings can attract queues: choose less busy times to avoid crowds.

For the latest updates on openings, schedules and visitor information consult the official websites of the individual museums.
