Autore: Redazione 14/03/2026 14:32

The Olympic Games™ — A three-thousand-year story

Fondazione Luigi Rovati in Milan presents an exhibition tracing 3,000 years of Olympic history, on view until 22 March 2026. The display is organised into five thematic sections—athletes, objects (including the torch), sports, victory and awards, and the relationship between sport and memory.

Highlights

The exhibition features important loans and rarely seen items from major institutions. Notable objects include:

  • Ancient coins, pottery and marble fragments from Greek, Etruscan and Roman contexts;
  • The Tomb of the Olympics (530–520 BCE), a significant archaeological loan;
  • Modern memorabilia such as Pierre de Coubertin's boxing gloves and the jersey worn by Usain Bolt at Beijing 2008;
  • Relay batons, prostheses used by Paralympic athletes, and historic sporting equipment;
  • Objects tied to landmark editions of the Games: saddles, medals, crown wreaths and vintage posters.

Why visit

The exhibition juxtaposes ancient artifacts and contemporary materials to illustrate how competition, commemoration and collective memory have evolved. It offers a unique opportunity to see rare loans and to explore the cultural significance of sporting events through time.
