From 18 April to 16 May 2026 Galleria Lombardi, located in Trastevere, Rome, presents the exhibition "Io guardo" dedicated to Mario Schifano and curated by Lorenzo and Enrico Lombardi. The show brings together a selection of about 20 works created between the 1960s and 1990s, offering a concise yet representative overview of the artist's development.
The installation favors a compact route that highlights Schifano's main production areas: monochromes, pieces inspired by advertising imagery, landscapes and subsequent cycles. The works reveal his dialogue with mass culture — photography, television, advertising — reinterpreted through painting while preserving a strong material and hand-made identity.
Practical tips: the exhibition is compact and can be visited in a relatively short time, making it suitable as part of a broader art itinerary in Rome. Verify gallery opening times and any special events before your visit.
Why visit: the selection allows visitors to grasp the key phases of Schifano's research, highlighting his ability to transform popular imagery into painting while foregrounding the painterly act.
