The Submerged and the Unexpected — Solo show by Sara Montani

Venue: Galleria L2Arte, Viale della Libertà 2/b, Pavia

Dates: 9–23 May 2026 | Opening: Saturday 9 May 2026, 17:30

"The Submerged and the Unexpected" collects works by Sara Montani born from the flooding of her studio. The project frames that personal event within the wider issue of climate change and proposes art as a means of recovery and collective awareness.

The exhibition features interdisciplinary collaborations to combine artistic practice with practical responses:

  • Luca De Rossi (PhD Candidate in Food Microbiology): sampling and analysis of moulds, and strategies to mitigate biological damage caused by water.
  • Brizio Antonio Caiulo (Interior Designer & 3D Visual Artist): modular furniture design for compact spaces, conceived as interlocking elements.
  • Mattia Bertolotti (Architect): architectural proposals including grids and platforms to adapt buildings to potential flooding.

The exhibition itinerary is organised into three thematic stages:

  • Damage — acceptance and display of surviving works that document the event.
  • Resilience — scientific inquiry and the transformation of decay into pictorial material, using techniques such as Gum Print.
  • Evolution — works that reclaim water as a creative force, including pieces made with the Ebru technique.

The opening evening features a discussion with the artist Sara Montani, curator Viola Moschettini and a contribution from microbiologist Luca De Rossi, followed by the presentation of the installation by the curator.

Visiting hours: Wednesday — Saturday 11:00–19:00; Sunday 15:30–19:00. Free entry.
