Overview

This solo exhibition gathers 45 works by Gulistan that investigate the garden as a symbolic space — a place of memory, contemplation and time's transformations. The exhibition path encourages a meditative viewing, with ephemeral figures, suspended surfaces and a painting practice that reconciles Eastern pictorial traditions with elements of European modernity.

Works and technique

• Technique: oil colors thinned to watercolor-like effects and layered surfaces on paper.
• Sign: calligraphic lines, contrasts of presence and absence, extensive use of white space.
• Imagery: dreamlike figures and evocative titles such as "Meditation", "We are leaves of the same tree", "A legend about time".
• Cultural dialogue: a synthesis of Chinese painting sensibilities and European art history producing an original visual language that bridges East and West.

Site-specific dialogue

Palazzo Medici Riccardi is an active participant in the exhibition: its architecture and historical significance enter into dialogue with the works, contrasting the Renaissance idea of an ordered garden with Gulistan's inward, poetic topography. The project also relates to the Medici garden, opening comparative readings between Western models of proportion and the spiritual resonance of Eastern traditions.
