Where: Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta
On view until: 2 June 2026
For the first time in Italy the museum presents an antological exhibition dedicated to Grigory Gluckmann, a painter of Belarusian origin whose career spanned Russia, Germany, Italy, France and the United States. Curated by Valeria Gorbova and Daria Jorioz, the show features 35 paintings that highlight the dialogue between Renaissance techniques and French modernism in Gluckmann’s work.
Produced by Contemporanea progetti in collaboration with Expona and supported by the Regional Department for Education, Culture and Identity Policies of the Aosta Valley, the exhibition emphasises refined pictorial quality, luminous surfaces and a pervasive sense of melancholy.
The display is organised into five thematic sections guiding visitors through the artist’s development:
Highlighted subjects include ballet scenes, intimate interiors and urban life, as well as female nudes executed with techniques recalling the old masters, notably his use of oil on wooden panels.
The exhibition is an opportunity to rediscover an artist who synthesised artistic migrations and stylistic currents of the twentieth century, offering a contemplative, intimate vision rather than spectacle. A bilingual Italian–French catalogue is published by Mandragora, with essays by Valeria Gorbova, Daria Jorioz and Marty Wolpert.
Practical tip: schedule your visit before the exhibition closes on 2 June 2026 to fully appreciate this focused overview of Gluckmann’s figurative practice.
