Forlì Comic Library: calls for space, investment and long-term vision

Alessandro Callegati 'Calle' National Comic Library in Forlì: summary and requests

On the second anniversary of its link with the Museo San Domenico, the Fumettoteca in Forlì published an assessment of its work and appealed for concrete measures. Established to promote comics culture, the initiative has run for 16 years primarily through volunteer effort and self-financing, and now faces a structural challenge.

Main issue: lack of adequate space keeps much of the collection inaccessible and restricts workshops, training programs and social inclusion activities.

The Fumettoteca as a Social Community Hub

The institution operates as a community focal point—comic library, free service center and meeting place open even when other libraries are closed. Staff ask for official recognition and tangible support from local authorities.

  • Increased visibility after inclusion in the San Domenico route, yet visibility alone is insufficient without a structural plan.
  • Sustainability: a long-term strategy is needed, with dedicated space, staff and steady funding.
  • Practical needs: more accessible archives, dedicated rooms for workshops, educational areas and community services.

The team calls on the Municipality of Forlì to turn promotional initiatives into real investment and planning. The goal is not ceremonial recognition but the provision of resources and spaces that secure the cultural and social value of the collection over time.
