Firenze Déco: Atmospheres of the 1920s at Palazzo Medici Riccardi

From April 2 to August 25, 2026 Palazzo Medici Riccardi presents Firenze Déco. Atmospheres of the 1920s, an exhibition retracing the creative effervescence of the decade through ceramics, furniture, jewelry, textiles, fashion and advertising posters. The display connects Florentine artists and manufactories with international trends, offering a broad perspective on Art Déco in the city.

What the exhibition covers

The itinerary is organized into thematic sections that examine Florence’s links with key European centres of decorative arts, with emphasis on ties to Paris and the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs. Main topics include:

  • Ceramics and production: the role of Richard-Ginori and figures such as Gio Ponti and Galileo Chini.
  • Graphic design and advertising: posters and visual projects showing the influence of the avant-gardes.
  • Fashion and craftsmanship: the early activity of Ferragamo and Gucci, Thayaht’s Tuta and luxury accessories.
  • International connections: the impact of decorative arts biennials and cultural exchanges on the new aesthetic.

Organization and publication

The exhibition is promoted by the Metropolitan City of Florence and produced by Fondazione MUS.E, in collaboration with local institutions and archives. Curated by Lucia Mannini with a scientific committee of specialists, the project is accompanied by a substantial catalogue published by Giunti with essays and research contributions.
