Mother's Day at the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum: inclusive visits for families

For Mother's Day the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum is organizing a morning dedicated to families and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular attention to autism. The initiative aims to provide a calm, accessible and engaging cultural visit, supported by trained staff and heritage operators.

How the visits are organized

Guided visits are designed to promote comfort and participation: each route lasts about one and a half hours and runs in limited-size groups to ensure a relaxed experience and personalized support.

  • Date: Sunday 10 May 2026
  • Time: 9:00–14:00 (five morning time slots)
  • Visit length: approximately 1.5 hours
  • Groups: max 25 participants per slot
  • Cost: free with standard site admission ticket (standard reductions and exemptions apply)

Technology and activities designed for young visitors

To boost engagement, the interactive digital guide "Avventura a Ercolano" is available, created with input from experts in education and neurodiversity. The app can be used on tablets provided by the Park or downloaded on iPad at ercolano.cultura.gov.it/accessibilita/.

  • Augmented reality and interactive beacons along the route
  • Educational games such as reassembling mosaics, virtual javelin activity in the Palestra, and collecting coins on terraces
  • Virtual artifact restoration activities to encourage shared discovery

Participation and bookings

Booking is mandatory. The morning is open to families with children, primary and lower-secondary schools, and anyone seeking an accessible cultural experience.

  • Online bookings: coopculture.it/it/prodotti/cultura-senza-barriere/
  • Booking contact: [email protected]

Comfortable clothing is recommended. This activity is part of the "Culture without Barriers" project, aimed at making cultural sites welcoming and usable by all families.
