From 14 April to 8 November 2026, the Natural History Museum of Milan presents "Inside the Metamorphosis", a new exhibition by artist and architect Maria Cristina Finucci. The installation is conceived as a sensory and reflective journey that transforms plastic waste into hybrid figures to narrate the condition of the world's seas.
The exhibition launches the four-year program "Tracce", which links scientific research and artistic expression and is promoted by the Scientific Institutes of the City of Milan. The project aims to combine visual impact and scientific information, translating data on marine pollution into memorable exhibition moments.
Finucci's work assembles plastic objects and microplastic fragments into sculptures that suggest altered marine organisms: forms that are at once alluring and unsettling. Curated by Marcello Farabegoli and produced by the environmental association Marevivo, the installation bridges aesthetics and environmental warning, prompting visitors to reconsider consumption habits and their effects on ecosystems.
The exhibition is suitable for a broad audience: residents concerned with environmental issues, students, and contemporary art enthusiasts. Check the museum's website or contact the venue before visiting for opening hours, ticketing and possible booking requirements.
"Inside the Metamorphosis" functions as more than an artistic statement: it is a call to action. By converting discarded materials into striking images, the installation seeks to motivate concrete steps toward waste reduction and marine protection. The show is part of Milan's broader cultural strategy to encourage sustainability through public programmes.
