Since taking leadership of the Museo d'Arte della Provincia di Nuoro (MAN) in 2022, Chiara Gatti has steered the institution toward a model that protects local traditions while building cultural bridges beyond the island. The museum is increasingly seen as a regional cultural hub with international connections.
With a background in art history and long experience as a curator and cultural journalist, Gatti has emphasized rigorous scientific programming that attracts both local audiences and institutional partners.
The MAN keeps a strong focus on Sardinian identity—language, folk arts and memory—while avoiding cultural isolation. The museum presents projects that reinterpret local heritage through contemporary languages and themes with universal resonance.
Practically, the MAN has adopted measures to improve its financial and cultural sustainability: opening a bookshop, producing publications and merchandising that help fund operations. Programming was also adjusted to increase attendance during winter months, achieving a more balanced annual visitor flow.
In the coming months the museum plans exhibitions that combine local artists and international themes, and curatorial projects that start from Sardinian culture to engage wider audiences. The MAN thus consolidates its role as a cultural laboratory in Sardinia.
