Catania recruits 54 young volunteers for monumental sites

The Archaeological Park of Catania and the Aci Valley has opened the 2026 Civil Service call to select 54 volunteers (aged 18–28) to work on the enhancement and management of monuments and archaeological areas in the city and surrounding towns. The service period is one year, starting next summer.

Sites included

  • Ancient theatre on Via Vittorio Emanuele (including Casa Liberti)
  • Rotonda Baths and Indirizzo Baths
  • Jesuit church of San Francesco Borgia on Via Crociferi
  • “Saro Franco” Regional Museum in Adrano
  • Palikè archaeological site in Mineo
  • Archaeological area of the Santa Venera al pozzo baths in Acicatena

Requirements and terms

  • Age: 18–28 years
  • Commitment: about 25 hours per week (5 hours per day, two rest days weekly)
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Monthly allowance: approximately €500
  • Benefits: preferential ranking in public competitions for recognized service periods

Selection and deadlines

Selection tests for eligible candidates are scheduled for May; the final ranking will be based on scores achieved. Applications must be submitted by April 8 at 14:00 CET. An SPID digital identity is required; applications are filed online at the Civil Service portal (domandaonline.serviziocivile.it).

Purpose of the programme

The initiative aims to engage young people from diverse educational backgrounds — humanities, arts and STEM — to increase public access and improve management of monumental sites. The placement provides hands-on training, networking within the cultural sector and professional development in heritage management.

To apply: visit https://domandaonline.serviziocivile.it/, log in with SPID and submit the application by 14:00 on April 8.
