Aglie Castle: why visit

Aglie Castle, located in the Canavese area near Turin, is one of Piedmont's most charming historic residences. Historical overview

The site stands on the remains of a medieval fortification, but its present appearance took shape between the 17th and 18th centuries. Permanent Japanese art exhibition

Since December 2025 the castle houses the permanent exhibition "Ricordi di viaggio. Paintings from Japan to Aglie Castle". Highlights include:

• 21 restored 19th-century Japanese paintings;
• 28 vases purchased in Japan by Duke Tomaso of Savoy-Genova;
• samurai armor and kakemono, with works by artists such as Kawanabe Kyōsai.

The collection introduces an Eastern fragment into the Savoy setting, offering an original dialogue between 19th-century collecting and a historic residence.

The park and UNESCO recognition

The park covers 34 hectares of tree-lined avenues, clearings and ancient trees. The Fountain of the Rivers is among the most striking features. Since 1997 the castle is part of the UNESCO site of the Savoy Residences, alongside other Piedmontese landmarks.

• Opening hours: open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. Last entry at 17:00. Closed on Tuesdays.
• Tickets: full ticket for the castle €8; garden €3; combined park and garden access €5. Reduced rates and free admission apply for young people, minors, museum card holders and other eligible categories.
• How to get there: about a 45-minute drive from Turin heading toward the Canavese area. Public transport options combine train and bus from major Turin stations.
