Aglie Castle, located in the Canavese area near Turin, is one of Piedmont's most charming historic residences. With richly furnished interiors, more than 300 rooms and an extensive monumental park, it is an excellent destination for a cultural day trip blending Savoy history with cinematic scenery.
The site stands on the remains of a medieval fortification, but its present appearance took shape between the 17th and 18th centuries. Acquired by the Savoy royal family, the castle was transformed into a representative residence that still preserves period furnishings, reception rooms and collections illustrating court life.
Since December 2025 the castle houses the permanent exhibition "Ricordi di viaggio. Paintings from Japan to Aglie Castle". Highlights include:
The collection introduces an Eastern fragment into the Savoy setting, offering an original dialogue between 19th-century collecting and a historic residence.
The park covers 34 hectares of tree-lined avenues, clearings and ancient trees. The Fountain of the Rivers is among the most striking features. Since 1997 the castle is part of the UNESCO site of the Savoy Residences, alongside other Piedmontese landmarks.
For travellers planning a cultural excursion from Turin, Aglie Castle combines history, collections and cinematic outdoor settings—check for special openings and temporary exhibitions before you go.
