Restoration of the former Church of San Giovanni Battista in Roccacinquemiglia

The regeneration plan for the historic village of Roccacinquemiglia, a hamlet of Castel di Sangro (AQ), continues with a targeted intervention on the former Church of San Giovanni Battista. The aim is to revive the building, currently a ruin, converting it into a flexible public space for conferences, exhibitions and cultural events.

Investment and goals: developed in collaboration with the Superintendency, the project foresees an investment of more than €600,000, combining historic restoration with contemporary architectural solutions that respect the village context.

Main works

• Consolidation and recovery of historic masonry;
• Cleaning and restoration of stone surfaces and decorative elements;
• Reconstruction of the bell tower top using original stone materials found on site;
• Construction of new functional volumes (foyer, reception areas and restrooms);
• Installation of modern technical systems designed to preserve the building’s historic identity.

Benefits for the village and visitors

The intervention preserves collective memory linked to the former church and creates new opportunities for public use, strengthening the attractiveness of the historic centre. The multifunctional hall will host cultural events, conferences, temporary exhibitions and local initiatives, fostering community engagement and promotion of the territory.
