The FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano) marks biodiversity with guided walks on 23 and 24 May 2026, offering outdoor experiences across multiple regions to learn about habitats, species and conservation. Below are five recommended routes from north to south for nature lovers and easy trekking.
An 18th-century villa with terraced gardens overlooking the Gulf of Poets. The guided walk highlights water management in the garden, Mediterranean plantings and concludes in the historic greenhouse with a honey tasting to discuss pollinators' role in biodiversity.
Visits: 23–24 May, at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00.
A 2,700-hectare wetland and saltworks landscape, home to flamingos and diverse birdlife. The route is a roughly 3 km dirt path, ideal to understand wetland ecology and to visit restored industrial-era saltwork buildings.
Visit: Sunday 24 May, 10:00.
An urban trek through the Sassi to explore how architecture, history and urban biodiversity coexist. The itinerary often starts at Casa Noha and offers a nature-focused interpretation of the UNESCO-listed townscape.
Abruzzo's program includes easy-to-moderate hikes in parks and reserves, perfect for observing mountain and Apennine habitats with guided explanations on local flora and fauna.
Piedmont offers visits to historic gardens and green spaces with emphasis on native species, veteran trees and conservation practices through guided routes and educational activities.
Joining the biodiversity walks is a direct way to discover Italy's natural heritage and learn conservation practices in the field. Check meeting points and times on the official site before you go.
